A Day of Reflection at St. James Choose Your Words led by Br. Al Mascia, OFM, Hazzan Steve Klaper, and Mary Gilhuly, from Song and Spirit. This Lent, spend a day experiencing the power of words in sacred scripture. Learn how God uses language to speak the world into existence, and how Jesus chose words that engaged, angered, and inspired those who knew him. Together, we will take a deep dive into well-known parables and familiar scriptures, using the Jewish practice of Talmud study to explore the meaning of those words in English, Greek, and Hebrew. We’ll even get creative with colorful mosaic glass and familiar quotes where you will choose the words that inspire you. Spiritual storyteller and Jewish troubadour Hazzan Steve Klaper; Franciscan friar, musician, and storyteller Br. Al Mascia, OFM; and teacher and mosaic artist Mary Gilhuly will lead us on this inspirational journey. The three are co-founders of the Song and Spirit Institute for Peace, which works to promote greater understanding among people of diverse religious, cultural,l and ethnic backgrounds through music, art, dialogue, study, and compassionate acts of community service.
