A lector might be called "the voice of God" because a lector is one who proclaims God's Word at Liturgies. The General Instruction to the Roman Missal states: [Those who exercise the ministry of reader] "should be truly suited to perform this function and should receive careful preparation, so that the faithful by listening to the readings from the sacred texts may develop in their hearts a warm and lively love for the Sacred Scripture."
If you have a love of scripture, the gift of public speaking, and a willingness to "carefully prepare" for this ministry, serving as a lector would be the best use of your God-given gifts.
Lectors are scheduled on a quarterly basis, which allows ample time for preparation. The protocol for lectors/readers is posted in the Narthex with specific directions to guide you through the process.
