A lector might be called "the voice of God" because a lector proclaims God's Word at Liturgies. The General Instruction to the Roman Missal states: [Those who exercise the ministry of reader] "should be truly suited to perform this function and should receive careful preparation, so that the faithful by listening to the readings from the sacred texts may develop in their hearts a warm and lively love for the Sacred Scriptures."
If you love scripture, the gift of public speaking, and a willingness to "carefully prepare" for this ministry, serving as a lector would best use your God-given gifts.
Lectors are scheduled every quarter, which allows ample time for preparation. The protocol for lectors/readers is posted in the Narthex with specific directions to guide you through the process.
